Zwei Abstecher durften auf dieser eher durch kahle Landschaft (Grassland) begleitete Tour nicht fehlen. Einerseits das erste Nationale Monument der USA, der Devils Tower und die kleine Goldgr\u00e4ber-Stadt Deadwood bereits in den Black Hills. Deadwood ist heute bekannt f\u00fcr Gl\u00fcckspiele wie man es von Las Vegas her kennt. Fester Bestandteil der sommerlichen Touristensaison ist die endliche Wiederbelebung der dramatischen Story von der Ermordung der Wildwestgr\u00f6sse Wild Bill Hickock durch Jack McCall im Saloon # 10.<\/p>\n

Der Devils Tower ist ein Monolith, der am Rande der Bear Lodge Mountains und der Black Hills im Crook County im US-Bundesstaat Wyoming liegt. Er hat eine H\u00f6he von etwa 265 Metern und einen Durchmesser von fast 150 Metern. Der Berg wird von mehreren V\u00f6lkern der Pr\u00e4rieindianer als Wohnsitz des Grizzlyb\u00e4ren angesehen und ist f\u00fcr sie ein heiliger Ort.<\/p>\n

Das Gebiet wurde wie ober erw\u00e4hnt durch Pr\u00e4sident Theodore Roosevelt am 24. September 1906 als erstes National Monument unter dem Namen Devils Tower National Monument ausgewiesen.<\/p>\n
